Plane Watching at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport: An Easy Outing with a Toddler

Plane watching at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport: a toddler-approved coffee date at the Downwind Restaurant near Atlanta.

Chamblee, Georgia

Not every adventure needs a suitcase. For an easy morning out, my son and I grabbed coffee at the Downwind Restaurant at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport and watched the planes take off and land.

Why we recommend it

  • Front-row plane watching. The patio looks out over the airport’s runway.
  • Toddler-approved. Little plane lovers can watch takeoffs and landings while you sip your coffee.
  • Close to home. It’s right in Chamblee, an easy drive from Atlanta.
  • More plane spotting. Doc Manget Memorial Aviation Park, by the airport, is another spot to watch the planes.

Tips for going with a little one

  • Check the restaurant’s hours before you go, since they can change.
  • Pack a bag with a bottle, snacks and diapers so you can stay a while.
  • Ask for a patio seat for the best view of the runway.

More for little ones: my toddler must-haves.
